orion pre-k plus & ursa major pre-k
(4-6 years old)
Our Pre-K program is designed to confidently prepare children for Kindergarten while still honoring the joy, curiosity, and playfulness of early childhood. This is a year of huge growth (academically, socially, and emotionally) and we are intentional about supporting every child along the way. We love Pre-K, and it shows in the energy, learning, and fun that fills our classrooms every day.
Preparing for Kindergarten with Purpose
Our Pre-K curriculum is thoughtfully designed to help children develop the skills they need to feel confident and successful in Kindergarten. Through intentional instruction and guided practice, children build strong foundations in:
Language & Literacy: Letter and sound recognition, phonics, early reading skills, writing, storytelling, and expressive language.
Math Skills: Counting, number sense, simple addition and subtraction concepts, patterns, shapes, and problem-solving.
Science & Inquiry: Hands-on experiments, observation, and exploration encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and questioning.
Scaffolding Learning for Success
Teachers use scaffolding techniques to meet students where they are and gradually build skills over time. Learning experiences are thoughtfully layered—starting with support and guidance, then slowly encouraging independence and confidence. This ensures every child is challenged appropriately and feels successful throughout their learning journey.
Balancing Play, Projects & Desk Work
Pre-K is all about balance. While children are introduced to desk work and small-group academic tasks, it is always done in short, developmentally appropriate doses. These experiences help children practice focus, following directions, and completing tasks—key Kindergarten readiness skills.
At the same time, children enjoy plenty of:
Play-Based Learning: Dramatic play, sensory exploration, and hands-on activities remain essential parts of every day.
Projects & Collaborative Work: Longer-term projects encourage teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and pride in their work.
Gross & Fine Motor Development: Movement, outdoor play, writing, cutting, and building support physical readiness for school.
Confidence, Independence & Social Growth
Beyond academics, Pre-K students learn essential life skill, managing routines, collaborating with peers, advocating for themselves, and building resilience. Teachers foster independence while providing the emotional support children need to take on new challenges with confidence.
